Handmade Damascus Bowie knife
Handmade Damascus Bowie knives

Handmade Damascus bowie knives, forged in our Wyoming workshop from layered Damascus steel. Each blade carries over 500 layers and is built one knife at a time for collectors and serious knife enthusiasts

Damascus bowie knives bring together one of the most iconic blade designs in knife history and the beauty of layered Damascus steel. The bowie has always been tied to frontier craftsmanship and big working blades, and forged in Damascus, it gains both performance and real character.

Every knife in this collection is made by hand in our workshop. We forge the Damascus billets in-house, pattern-welding layered steels together under hammer and press. Each billet is forged again and again to build hundreds of layers before the blade is shaped, heat treated, and finished by hand.

Blade thickness typically runs from 4 mm to 6 mm depending on the design, and each knife is paired with a hand-stitched leather sheath built for horizontal or vertical carry.

Carbon Damascus Steel

Many Bowie knives in this collection use high carbon Damascus steel forged from 1095 and 15N20 steel. These steels are layered together and forge welded to create the Damascus billet.

After forging, the blade is etched to reveal the layered Damascus pattern hidden inside the steel. This process creates the flowing patterns that make every Damascus knife unique.

These blades are heat treated to approximately 59–60 HRC, giving a strong balance of durability and edge retention.

Collectors appreciate carbon Damascus because of its traditional forging character and the deep contrast patterns that appear after etching.

Stainless Damascus Steel

Some knives in this collection use stainless Damascus steel made from VG10 and 15N20 steel layers. Stainless Damascus offers improved corrosion resistance while maintaining the layered structure that defines Damascus steel.

After heat treatment, these blades reach approximately 59–61 HRC, providing excellent edge performance while requiring less maintenance than traditional carbon steel.

This option is popular among buyers who want Damascus aesthetics with easier long-term care.

Handmade Craftsmanship

Every knife in this collection is built one blade at a time in our shop. We forge the Damascus billets in-house on hammer and press, then shape, heat treat, and finish each blade carefully by hand. No factory production, no mass manufacturing.

Handle materials vary across the collection and include:

  • stag antler
  • bull horn
  • camel bone
  • micarta
  • G10
  • pine cone resin
  • ironwood and other exotic hardwoods

Many knives feature full tang construction, brass guards, Damascus guards, and mosaic pins or copper pins.

Each knife is supplied with a hand-stitched leather sheath built for durability and everyday carry.

Choosing the Right Bowie Knife

When choosing a Damascus Bowie knife, buyers usually consider steel type, blade thickness, and handle material.

Carbon Damascus steel offers strong edge retention and classic Damascus character. Stainless Damascus steel provides improved corrosion resistance while maintaining layered steel construction.

Blade thickness between 4–6 mm gives these Bowie knives the strength expected from a large working blade while maintaining good cutting performance.

FAQs About Damascus Bowie Knives

What is a Damascus bowie knife?

A Damascus bowie knife is a large fixed-blade bowie made from layered Damascus steel, where two or more steels are forge-welded together and folded to create hundreds of layers. After etching, those layers reveal the flowing pattern Damascus is known for. It combines the classic bowie profile with a one-of-a-kind blade.

Is Damascus steel good for a bowie knife?

Yes. Our Damascus blades are forged from quality steels like 1095 and 15N20 for carbon Damascus, or VG10 and 15N20 for stainless Damascus, and heat treated to around 59 to 61 HRC. That gives a strong working edge with excellent retention, so a Damascus bowie performs as well as it looks.

How many layers are in your Damascus bowie knives?

Most blades in this collection carry over 500 layers. We forge the billets in-house, folding the layered steel repeatedly under hammer and press before the blade is ever shaped, which is what builds that depth of pattern.

What is the difference between carbon and stainless Damascus?

Carbon Damascus, forged from 1095 and 15N20, gives the deepest contrast and the most traditional forging character, but needs a little care to prevent rust. Stainless Damascus, made from VG10 and 15N20, offers improved corrosion resistance and easier upkeep while keeping the layered Damascus look.

How do I care for a Damascus bowie knife?

Wipe the blade clean and dry after each use and apply a light coat of oil before storage, especially for carbon Damascus. Avoid leaving the knife in a damp leather sheath for long periods. With a little care, the pattern and edge will last for generations.

How thick are the blades?

Blade thickness typically runs from 4 mm to 6 mm depending on the design. That gives these bowies the strength expected from a large working blade while keeping good cutting performance.

Do your Damascus bowie knives come with a sheath?

Yes. Every Damascus bowie knife in this collection comes with a hand-stitched leather sheath, built for horizontal or vertical carry and fitted to the individual blade.

Are these Damascus bowie knives handmade?

Completely. We forge the Damascus billets in-house and shape, heat treat, and finish every blade by hand in our Wyoming workshop. Each knife is made by us, Naqash and Younas Minhas, with no factory or mass production involved.
