This hand-forged Viking bearded axe is unlike any other we make. Its blackened 1075 steel head is sculpted with a flowing raven-feather texture, giving it an organic, almost living look, while the ash handle is deeply carved with a rune medallion, bead accents, and a jute rope wrap at the grip. Raw, primal, and rich with Norse spirit, it's a piece that draws the eye from across a room. Forged by hand in our Wyoming workshop, it comes with a leather sheath and is part of our Viking battle axes collection.
We forge this axe by hand — us, Naqash and Younas Minhas — with more than 15 years of combined experience at the bench. The head is shaped and sculpted individually and the ash handle carved, beaded, and wrapped by hand, so this is a genuine one-of-a-kind piece rather than a mass-produced replica. The head is forged from 1075 high carbon steel — a proven blade and tool steel that balances a keen, hard-wearing edge with the toughness an axe needs to take impact without chipping. Here it's given a dark, blackened finish and hand-sculpted feather texturing. This is a functional axe, not a soft display casting. Because 1075 is carbon steel, wipe the head clean and dry after handling and apply a light coat of oil before storage to keep it rust-free.
Carved and Rope-Wrapped Ash Handle
The handle is shaped from ash — the traditional wood for tool and weapon handles — and finished with some of our most detailed work. A carved rune medallion, small bead accents, and a natural jute rope wrap at the grip give it an authentic, hand-hewn character and a secure, comfortable hold. A rope lanyard completes the primal, traditional styling.
