Handmade D2 Steel Bowie Knives
D2 steel Bowie knives are known for their strong edge retention and dependable cutting performance. The Bowie design already carries a long history as one of the most recognizable large blades ever made. When combined with D2 tool steel, the result is a knife built for durability and long-lasting sharpness.
Every knife in this collection is made in my workshop. The blades are shaped, heat treated, and finished by hand before leaving the shop. These are not factory products. Each knife goes through forging, grinding, heat treatment, and finishing under the hands of the maker.
Blade thickness typically ranges between 4 mm and 6 mm, depending on the Bowie design and blade profile. Every knife is paired with a hand-stitched leather sheath designed for horizontal or vertical carry.

What Makes D2 Steel Special
D2 steel has long been used in tool making because of its excellent wear resistance and edge holding ability. For Bowie knives, this steel offers a strong balance between toughness and cutting performance.
After heat treatment in my shop, the blades typically reach 59–61 HRC, which allows the knife to keep a sharp edge even after extended use.
Because of this hardness range, D2 steel Bowie knives are often chosen by buyers who want a blade that stays sharp for a long time without frequent sharpening.

Blade Finishes and Construction
D2 Bowie knives in this collection are finished in several different styles depending on the design.
Common finishes include:
• stonewashed blades for a rugged working look
• satin finishes for a clean traditional appearance
• mirror polished blades for collectors
Many knives feature full tang construction, although some models use semi-tang designs depending on the style.
Handles vary across the collection and include materials such as:
• stag antler
• bull horn
• camel bone
• micarta
• G10
• resin handles
• hardwood and exotic woods
These materials provide a secure grip while giving each Bowie knife its own character.

Choosing a D2 Steel Bowie Knife
When selecting a D2 steel Bowie knife, buyers usually focus on blade profile, handle material, and finish.
D2 steel is ideal for those who prefer long edge retention and a tough working blade. Combined with a 4–6 mm thick Bowie blade, it creates a knife that handles demanding cutting tasks while maintaining durability.
